Wilmington, Sepetember 9, 2007:

Announcement

A Young Eagle Rally, sponsored by the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 297, in conjunction with the Cape Fear Fair and Expo will be held at the Wilmington International Airport on Saturday, October 27, 2007, between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm. This year we are offering a second day of Young Eagle Flights on Nov. 3, 2007 from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. The rally will be based in the Old Navy Building, next to the old Piedmont Hanger. The first 50 eagles to attend will receive free County Fair Tickets.

The mission of the Young Eagles Program is to provide a meaningful flight experience - free of charge - in a general aviation aircraft for young people between the ages of 8 and 17. All that is required is a parent or guardian's signature on the registration form.

The EAA Young Eagle Program is designed to be an introduction to aviation. The participants will learn about the different parts of an aircraft and how it flies. They will inspect a general aviation aircraft in the same manner that a pilot pre-flights an aircraft prior to flight. Participants will also take a short flight with a Young Eagle Pilot volunteer. All pilots are FAA licensed pilots with many years of experience. Following the flight they will be awarded a Young Eagle certificate.

Information:

The Young Eagle Program was developed by the EAA Aviation Foundation to share that special excitement about planes with young people. Since its introduction in 1992, volunteer pilots have flown more than one million young people. Many of these Young Eagles caught the excitement of flight and went on to pursue careers in aviation.

Young Eagles

Most kids at one time or another wonder what it would be like to fly.  The Young Eagles Program takes the mystery out of flying and makes is a reality for thousands of young people who enjoy the thrill for the very first time.

The Young Eagle Program teaches participants how an airplane flies, gives them the knowledge it takes to be a pilot, and raises their awareness of aviation careers.  The goal is clearly to encourage young people to fly.

How Do I Become a Young Eagle?

You must be between 8 and 17 years old and have a parent or guardian sign the registration form.  Click here to download registration form.   If you do not have Adobe Acrobat click here to get it now.  Take it to an EAA member or to the next sponsored Young Eagles event.  You will be informed when a demonstration flight can be arranged.
